Job Openings at Sidehill Farm
At Sidehill Farm we graze and milk a small herd of Normande and Jersey cows. We sell raw milk at the farm, and also produce delicious yogurt, which is delivered to stores and restaurants around Massachusetts. Our mission is to produce the healthiest, best-tasting yogurt and raw milk available by focusing on a total picture of health—of our customers, our cows, our crops, the local working rural landscape, and the robust biological and human community within which we all thrive. We also like to have fun! We are expanding and need talented people to work with us.
We currently have two positions open!
Full time, year-round
We have established a thriving, financially stable value-added business, a solid farm and processing infrastructure, and loyal, enthusiastic, customer base. We are now seeking a skilled cow person to take responsibility for the herd and the production of clean, high quality milk. The position includes primary responsibility for milking, feeding, herd health, and monitoring heats; maintenance of milking equipment, and calf and barn chores. Breeding skills a definite plus. Other tasks include fencing, paddock sizing for rotational grazing, tractor and equipment maintenance, assisting with haymaking, pasture clipping, plowing snow, and whatever else comes up.
Minimum 3 years experience required, preferably with organic dairy and rotational grazing systems. Must be able to handle animals calmly and gently and be skilled with tractors and equipment. We sell raw milk, so a focus on cleanliness of animals, milking procedures, and milking equipment are a priority.
This is a year-round position, beginning immediately. We are looking for someone who is motivated, observant, patient, responsible, clean, communicates well, and is really fun to be around. Must be a team player! Responsibilities and pay dependent on experience. Relief milkers are currently available to milk 6 - 8 times per week.
Competitive pay, 5.5 days per week, paid time off after one year. Housing, yogurt, milk, and other farm products included in compensation package.
